THE EVENT IS HOSTED BY COMPANIES, ORGANISATIONS AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES IN THE AREA WHERE UNIVERSITETSHOLMEN, VARVSSTADEN AND DOCKAN MEET, ALL WORKING TOWARDS MAKING THE NEIGHBOURHOOD AN OPEN, LIVELY AND COLLABORATIVE PLACE.

Have a coffee and learn about our joint case study on reclaiming waste material such as light walls and gypsum. Followed by a guided visit to Personalhuset and the built prototypes that challenge aesthetics and show recycling possibilities.

During Malmö möts, from June 12–18, the city comes alive with conversations, laughter, experiences, and encounters about democracy, the future, and everything in between. 250 program items across 25 venues. Eight persons from the Media Evolution community take the stage in the first hours of Summer Block Party to share perspectives on changes they feel, signals they see, and futures they hope for.
Each speaker has 10 minutes to present a change, a signal, and a future they long for related to their work, research or practice. The intention is to learn from each other’s observations, imaginations and visions and share the plurality of futures imagined by professionals in Malmö.
The relay of horizons is not about predicting the future, it’s about sharing diverse lenses, sparking conversations, and expanding our shared imaginations.

Join Marint Kunskapscenter for a talk about the transformation from an old industrial shipyard to a new shallow marine area in the Södra Varvsbassängen. A 52,000 m2 big pilot and a one-year restoration turning the toxic area into a new, healthier sand bottom – having the eelgrass, fish, mussels and Bladerwrack coming back. We have brought the ocean back into the city. Learn how urban waters can become healthier ecosystems for both people and marine life.

Doc Lounge presents the award-winning short documentary ”Yummaye” by Shaimaa Abdurahim inside the historic Spitzbunkern. Free entry!
Inside the historic WWII bomb shelter, the short film ”Yummaye” will play on loop from 10-12 AM. Winner of the Pixel Skåne Short Film Award 2026, the film portrays a mother-daughter relationship through themes of love, identity, and understanding.

The library is a vibrant public space for reading, learning, and discovery, beautifully located by Malmö’s harbour with panoramic views over the waterfront where the Block Party takes place. The tour also includes a short introduction to the ongoing exhibition about Malmö’s textile industry and the women who shaped the city’s history.

When the daytime programme winds down, we continue into the night. From 21.00–02.00, Varv turns into the official Summer Block Party afterparty an evening by the water with music, drinks, conversations and dancing. Expect friends, neighbours, collaborators and new connections from across Malmö’s creative and professional communities.
Varv is open throughout the day, so feel free to stop by earlier for food, drinks and a old dry dock hangout before the party begins.
